Sharifi MN, Feng E, Rydzewski NR, Taylor AK, Sperger JM, Shi Y, Helzer KT, Bootsma ML, Carreno V, Chang AH, Nunamaker LA, Blitzer GC, Shang TA, Subramanian A, Bjartell A, Josefsson A, Wikström P, Feng E, Kohli M, Yang R, Dehm SM, Small EJ, Aggarwal R, Quigley DA, Lang JM, Zhao SG, Sjöström M
Metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) is a heterogeneous disease. Several studies have identified transcriptional subtypes of mCRPC, but comprehensive analysis of prognostic gene expression pathways has been limited. Therefore, we aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression-based pathways with clinical outcomes and intrapatient and intratumor heterogeneity. Survival data were obtained for 272 patients. P... Abstract

Journal of cardiovascular development and disease, Volume 12, Issue 2, 18 3 2025, Pages 78 Beyond Survival: Assessing Quality of Life, Activity Level, and Ethnic Diversity in Aortic Dissection Survivors. Bacour N, van Erp O, Grewal S, Tirpan AU, Eberl S, Yeung KK, Balm R, Verwoert GC, Driessen AHG, Klautz RJM, Grewal N
Background: An acute aortic dissection (AAD) is a highly lethal condition that demands immediate medical intervention. Survivors often face significant long-term challenges. While immediate survival remains a critical focus in acute care settings, little is known about long-term results, especially with regard to activity levels, post-operative quality of life, and the impact of cultural and ethnic characteristics on recovery. Using data from the Dutch National Aortic Dissection Survivor's... Abstract
Journal of imaging, Volume 11, Issue 2, 18 3 2025, Pages 65 Impact of Data Capture Methods on 3D Reconstruction with Gaussian Splatting. Rangelov D, Waanders S, Waanders K, Keulen MV, Miltchev R
This study examines how different filming techniques can enhance the quality of 3D reconstructions with a particular focus on their use in indoor crime scene investigations. Using Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and Gaussian Splatting, we explored how factors like camera orientation, filming speed, data layering, and scanning path affect the detail and clarity of 3D reconstructions. Through experiments in a mock crime scene apartment, we identified optimal filming methods that reduce noise and art... Abstract

The surgeon : journal of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ireland, Volume 23, Issue 2, 18 3 2025, Pages 78-86 Surgeon personality diversity across generations and subspecialties. Sier VQ, Schmitz RF, Wertenbroek RWAM, Schepers A, van der Vorst JR, SUPER Collaborators
Background: Traditional exploration of surgical professionals' personality traits focuses on general characteristics at the domain-level of the five-factor model. Personality has been related to clinically-relevant areas such as clinical decision-making and team effectiveness, yet there is limited insight in the personality of surgeons at the facet-level of the Big Five. Here, we performed a large-scale study examining domain- and facet-variations of personality in four surgical generations... Abstract

Cell biochemistry and biophysics, 14 2 2025 Juglone Encapsulation in PLGA Nanoparticles Improves Solubility and Enhances Apoptosis in HeLa Cells. Yilmaz DE, Gumus B, Demirci H
The anticancer potential of juglone, a naphthoquinone derived from walnut trees, has been extensively studied; however, its hydrophobicity and toxicity obstruct its therapeutic applications. This study aimed to overcome these challenges by encapsulating juglone into poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles and evaluating their antiproliferative and apoptotic effects on HeLa cells. Juglone nanoparticles (JNP) were obtained by single emulsion solvent evaporation method. Its key physicoc... Abstract
Journal of comparative psychology (Washington, D.C. : 1983), Volume 139, Issue 3, 13 2 2025, Pages 178-191 Sensitivity to immature skill deficits. Food sharing experiments in squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus). Sehner S, Willems EP, Baumeyer A, Davis L, van Schaik CP, Burkart JM
Sharing food with immature individuals is costly and should therefore only occur when the benefits outweigh the costs. Accordingly, sharing typically decreases when immature individuals get older and become more proficient independent foragers. Providers would gain more if they could adjust food sharing not only to immature age but also to their skill level. Such sensitivity to others' skill deficits is expected to be rare, but may be found in species with high prosociality and other-regard... Abstract
The American journal of cardiology, Volume 243, 13 2 2025, Pages 45-49 Survival After Endocarditis Surgery Needing Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support: Results from the Netherlands Heart Registration. Heinen FJ, Akin S, van den Brink FS, Ayan K, Hermanns H, van der Stoel MD, Post MC, Klautz RJM, Tanis W, Cardiothoracic Surgery Registration Committee of the Netherlands Heart Registration
The incidence of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) support after cardiac surgery ranges from 0.4% to 3.7%, with in-hospital mortality rates reported at 60%. While the incidence of VA-ECMO after endocarditis (IE) surgery is unknown, these patients may face an even greater mortality risk due to additional IE-related complications. The primary objective of this study is to investigate the incidence and mortality rates of postoperative VA-ECMO following endocarditis surgery.... Abstract

Dai J, Ouyang Y, Gupte R, Liu XJA, Li Y, Yang F, Chen S, Provin T, Van Schaik E, Samuel JE, Jayaraman A, Zhou A, de Figueiredo P, Zhou J, Han A
Uncultivated but abundant soil microorganisms have untapped potential for producing broad ranges of natural products, as well as for bioremediation. However, cultivating soil microorganisms while maintaining a broad microorganism diversity to enable phenotyping and functional analysis of as diverse individual isolates as possible remains challenging. In this study, we developed and tested the ability of several culture media formulations that contain defined soil metabolites or soil extracts to... Abstract
