Access microbiology, Volume 3, Issue 3, 22 4 2021, Pages 000217 Bartonella quintana as a cause for prosthetic valve endocarditis and post-sternotomy mediastinitis. Plantinga NL, Vos RJ, Georgieva L, Roescher N
An otherwise healthy patient, with minimal clinical, biochemical and peroperative signs of infection, was diagnosed with Bartonella quintana prosthetic valve endocarditis by 16S PCR. The patient subsequently developed a post-sternotomy mediastinitis and Bartonella quintana was the only detected pathogen. Bartonella quintana can cause severe infections in individuals not classically at risk, and may be missed in the routine diagnostic work-up of endocarditis. Abstract

Journal of molecular and cellular cardiology, Volume 156, 18 3 2021, Pages 95-104 New calcification model for intact murine aortic valves. Kruithof BPT, van de Pol V, Los T, Lodder K, Mousavi Gourabi B, DeRuiter MC, Goumans MJ, Ajmone Marsan N
Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) is a common progressive disease of the aortic valves, for which no medical treatment exists and surgery represents currently the only therapeutic solution. The development of novel pharmacological treatments for CAVD has been hampered by the lack of suitable test-systems, which require the preservation of the complex valve structure in a mechanically and biochemical controllable system. Therefore, we aimed at establishing a model which allows the study of cal... Abstract

Pacing and clinical electrophysiology : PACE, Volume 44, Issue 4, 9 2 2021, Pages 657-666 The prognostic value of J-wave pattern for recurrence of ventricular tachycardia after catheter ablation in patients with myocardial infarction. Naruse Y, de Riva M, Watanabe M, Wijnmaalen AP, Venlet J, Timmer M, Schalij MJ, Zeppenfeld K
Background: J-waves and fragmented QRS (fQRS) on surface ECGs have been associated with the occurrence of ventricular tachyarrhythmias. Whether these non-invasive parameters can also predict ventricular tachycardia (VT) recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) is unknown. Of interest, patients with a wide QRS-complex have been excluded from clinical studies on J-waves, although a J-wave like pattern has been described for wide QRS. Methods: We retrospectively included 168 patient... Abstract

The American journal of cardiology, Volume 148, 3 1 2021, Pages 138-145 Right Ventricular-Pulmonary Arterial Coupling in Secondary Tricuspid Regurgitation. Fortuni F, Butcher SC, Dietz MF, van der Bijl P, Prihadi EA, De Ferrari GM, Ajmone Marsan N, Bax JJ, Delgado V
Chronic pressure-overload induces right ventricular (RV) adaptation to maintain RV-pulmonary arterial (PA) coupling. RV remodeling is frequently associated with secondary tricuspid regurgitation (TR) which may accelerate uncoupling. Our aim is to determine whether the non-invasive analysis of RV-PA coupling could improve risk stratification in patients with secondary TR. A total of 1,149 patients (median age 72[IQR, 63 to 79] years, 51% men) with moderate or severe secondary TR were included. RV... Abstract
