Cardiology in the young, Volume 13, Issue 4, 1 1 2003, Pages 364-366 Severe pulmonary hypertension secondary to a parachute-like mitral valve, with the left superior caval vein draining into the coronary sinus, in a girl with Turner's syndrome. van Heerde M, Hruda J, Hazekamp MG
A 17-year-old girl with Turner's syndrome underwent two cardiac operations due to severe mitral stenosis with pulmonary hypertension, caused by a parachute-like mitral valve. The anomaly was associated with persistence of the left superior caval vein, which drained to the coronary sinus, and non-compaction of the left ventricular myocardium. The association of these lesions is rare in patients with Turner's syndrome. Abstract

The American journal of cardiology, Volume 92, Issue 1, 1 1 2003, Pages 1-4 Preoperative comparison of different noninvasive strategies for predicting improvement in left ventricular function after coronary artery bypass grafting. Bax JJ, Maddahi J, Poldermans D, Elhendy A, Schinkel A, Boersma E, Valkema R, Krenning EP, Roelandt JR, van der Wall EE
Thallium-201 (Tl-201) imaging and dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) are the most frequently used tests in the clinical setting for assessing viability. However, Tl-201 has a suboptimal specificity and DSE a suboptimal sensitivity to predict functional improvement after revascularization. F18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) imaging is considered highly accurate, but availability is limited. Sequential imaging of Tl-201 and DSE may improve accuracy for assessing viability and may be comparable to... Abstract

Medicine, Volume 82, Issue 4, 1 1 2003, Pages 251-256 Myocardial infarction in cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL). Lesnik Oberstein SA, Jukema JW, Van Duinen SG, Macfarlane PW, van Houwelingen HC, Breuning MH, Ferrari MD, Haan J
Cerebral autosomal dominant arteriopathy with subcortical infarcts and leukoencephalopathy (CADASIL) is an angiopathy caused by mutations in the NOTCH3 gene. Typical microvascular changes are found throughout the arterial tree, but the documented disease expression is confined to the central nervous system. In an ongoing CADASIL study, we noted a number of patients with early acute myocardial infarction (before the age of 50 years), as well as patients with electrocardiogram (ECG) abnormalities.... International journal of cardiology, Volume 90, Issue 1, 1 1 2003, Pages 15-21 Secondary prevention in coronary heart disease patients with low HDL: which options do we have? Liem AH, Jukema JW, van Veldhuisen DJ
Low levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) are frequently encountered in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD), most often in combination with elevated triglycerides as part of a dysmetabolic syndrome. Although no large secondary prevention trials with statin therapy with special emphasis on low HDL-C have been performed, some guidance can be extracted from a number of post-hoc analyses on how to treat patients with low levels of HDL-C. In terms of risk reduction, statin th... Abstract
