Cell reports. Medicine, Volume 2, Issue 12, 6 1 2021, Pages 100461 Soluble antigens derived from Coxiella burnetii elicit protective immunity in three animal models without inducing hypersensitivity. Gregory AE, van Schaik EJ, Fratzke AP, Russell-Lodrigue KE, Farris CM, Samuel JE
Q fever is caused by the intracellular bacterium Coxiella burnetii, for which there is no approved vaccine in the United States. A formalin-inactivated whole-cell vaccine (WCV) from virulent C. burnetii NMI provides single-dose long-lived protection, but concerns remain over vaccine reactogenicity. We therefore sought an alternate approach by purifying native C. burnetii antigens from the clonally derived avirulent NMII strain. A soluble bacterial extract, termed Sol II, elicits high-titer, high... Abstract

The Journal of invasive cardiology, Volume 33, Issue 12, 1 1 2021, Pages E1004 Delayed Iatrogenic Left Ventricular Apex Perforation Sealed With an Amplatzer Septal Occluder Device Under Transthoracic Echocardiography Guidance. Montero-Cabezas JM, Delgado V, van der Kley F
High rates of spontaneous rupture and death have been described when the pseudoaneurysm is left untreated. Percutaneous closure has emerged as an alternative to surgery in patients with unacceptable surgical risk. In this case, transthoracic echocardiography allowed optimal characterization of the defect and successful procedure guidance, avoiding risks derived from more invasive intraprocedural imaging techniques. Medical mycology, Volume 60, Issue 1, 1 1 2021, Pages myab060 Implementation of a clinical decision rule for selecting empiric treatment for invasive aspergillosis in a setting with high triazole resistance. van de Peppel RJ, van Grootveld R, Hendriks BJC, van Paassen J, Bernards S, Jolink H, Koopmans JG, von dem Borne PA, van der Beek MT, de Boer MGJ
World-wide, emerging triazole resistance increasingly complicates treatment of invasive aspergillosis (IA). In settings with substantial (>10%) prevalence of triazole resistance, empiric combination therapy with both a triazole and liposomal amphotericin B (LAmB) can be considered because of the low yields of susceptibility testing. To avoid toxicity while optimizing outcome, a strategy with monotherapy would be preferable. A newly designed treatment algorithm based on literature and expert c... Abstract

Nature, Volume 600, Issue 7890, 1 1 2021, Pages 748-753 Activation of homologous recombination in G1 preserves centromeric integrity. Yilmaz D, Furst A, Meaburn K, Lezaja A, Wen Y, Altmeyer M, Reina-San-Martin B, Soutoglou E
Centromeric integrity is key for proper chromosome segregation during cell division1. Centromeres have unique chromatin features that are essential for centromere maintenance2. Although they are intrinsically fragile and represent hotspots for chromosomal rearrangements3, little is known about how centromere integrity in response to DNA damage is preserved. DNA repair by homologous recombination requires the presence of the sister chromatid and is suppressed in the G1 phase of the cell cycle4. H... Abstract

International journal of molecular sciences, Volume 22, Issue 23, 24 4 2021, Pages 12678 Cold-Inducible RNA-Binding Protein but Not Its Antisense lncRNA Is a Direct Negative Regulator of Angiogenesis In Vitro and In Vivo via Regulation of the 14q32 angiomiRs-microRNA-329-3p and microRNA-495-3p. Goossens EAC, Zhang L, de Vries MR, Jukema JW, Quax PHA, Nossent AY
Inhibition of the 14q32 microRNAs, miR-329-3p and miR-495-3p, improves post-ischemic neovascularization. Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRBP) facilitates maturation of these microRNAs. We hypothesized that CIRBP deficiency improves post-ischemic angiogenesis via downregulation of 14q32 microRNA expression. We investigated these regulatory mechanisms both in vitro and in vivo. We induced hindlimb ischemia in Cirp-/- and C57Bl/6-J mice, monitored blood flow recovery with laser Doppler perfus... Abstract
