Journal of internal medicine, Volume 282, Issue 6, 27 4 2017, Pages 522-536 A protective role of IRF3 and IRF7 signalling downstream TLRs in the development of vein graft disease via type I interferons. Simons KH, Peters HAB, Jukema JW, de Vries MR, Quax PHA
Background: Toll like receptors (TLR) play an important role in vein graft disease (VGD). Interferon regulatory factors (IRF) 3 and 7 are the transcriptional regulators of type I interferons (IFN) and type I IFN responsive genes and are downstream factors of TLRs. Relatively little is known with regard to the interplay of IRFs and TLRs in VGD development. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of IRF3 and IRF7 signaling downstream TLRs and the effect of IRF3 and IRF7 in VGD. Methods a... Abstract

The Journal of dermatological treatment, Volume 29, Issue 4, 26 4 2017, Pages 375-382 Thiopurine metabolite levels in patients with atopic dermatitis and/or chronic hand/foot eczema treated with azathioprine. Garritsen FM, van der Schaft J, Bruijnzeel-Koomen CAF, van Schaik RH, de Graaf M, van den Broek MPH, de Bruin-Weller MS
Background: Azathioprine is frequently used in severe eczema. It is converted in the liver into active metabolites, including 6-thioguanine nucleotide (6-TGN) and methylated 6-methylmercaptopurine (6-MMP). In the past, the therapeutic potential of azathioprine may have not been fully utilized. Recent investigations on inflammatory bowel disease have led to a better understanding of azathioprine metabolism and optimizing treatment. Objective: To investigate whether measuring thiopurine metabolite... Abstract
Multimedia manual of cardiothoracic surgery : MMCTS, Volume 2017, 25 4 2017 The Ross reimplantation technique. Schneider A, Klautz RJM, Hazekamp M
Pulmonary autograft replacement of a diseased aortic valve (the Ross procedure) is effective in children, where growth is essential, and in young patients for whom a biological solution is preferred. Long-term outcomes are generally good. However eventual autograft dilatation may necessitate reoperation. In order to diminish the risk of autograft dilatation, several 'wrapping' techniques have been developed. Here, we present our technique of choice: the reimplantation of the pulmonary... Abstract

Journal of cardiovascular computed tomography, Volume 11, Issue 6, 22 4 2017, Pages 423-428 Coronary lumen volume to myocardial mass ratio in primary microvascular angina. Grover R, Leipsic JA, Mooney J, Kueh SH, Ohana M, Nørgaard BL, Eftekhari A, Bax JJ, Murphy DT, Hague CJ, Seidman MA, Blanke P, Sedlak T, Sellers SL
Background: Microvascular angina (MVA) is an incompletely understood clinical entity. Computational analysis of coronary Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) has shown an association between low coronary lumen volume to myocardial mass (V/M) ratio and lower Fractional Flow Reserve values, independent of plaque measures. We hypothesized that low V/M ratio may be present in patients with MVA. Methods: A retrospective case-control analysis was performed using patients fulfilling guideline criteria... Abstract

Kueh SH, Mooney J, Ohana M, Kim U, Blanke P, Grover R, Sellers S, Ellis J, Murphy D, Hague C, Bax JJ, Nørgaard BL, Rabbat M, Leipsic JA
Introduction: A standardised approach to the interpretation of FFRCT data is currently lacking. We evaluated the rate of reclassification of FFRCT positivity using the FFRCT value distal to an anatomical stenoses compared to the lowest FFRCT value. Method: Patients who underwent coronary CTA and FFRCT analysis were eligible. FFRCT value of ≤ 0.80 was considered positive. Positive FFRCT distal to stenosis was defined as those with a stenoses of ≥ 25% with an associated FFRCT value of ≤ 0.80 withi... Abstract

Journal of vascular surgery, Volume 67, Issue 6, 11 2 2017, Pages 1891-1900.e4 Adventitial adipogenic degeneration is an unidentified contributor to aortic wall weakening in the abdominal aortic aneurysm. Doderer SA, Gäbel G, Kokje VBC, Northoff BH, Holdt LM, Hamming JF, Lindeman JHN
Objective: The processes driving human abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) progression are not fully understood. Although antiinflammatory and proteolytic strategies effectively quench aneurysm progression in preclinical models, so far all clinical interventions failed. These observations hint at an incomplete understanding of the processes involved in AAA progression and rupture. Interestingly, strong clinical and molecular associations exist between popliteal artery aneurysms (PAAs) and AAAs; howe... Abstract

To evaluate the shared genetic etiology of type 2 diabetes (T2D) and coronary heart disease (CHD), we conducted a genome-wide, multi-ancestry study of genetic variation for both diseases in up to 265,678 subjects for T2D and 260,365 subjects for CHD. We identify 16 previously unreported loci for T2D and 1 locus for CHD, including a new T2D association at a missense variant in HLA-DRB5 (odds ratio (OR) = 1.29). We show that genetically mediated increase in T2D risk also confers higher CHD risk. J... Abstract

Current treatment options in cardiovascular medicine, Volume 19, Issue 9, 1 1 2017, Pages 71 Current Challenges in Translating Tissue-Engineered Heart Valves. Stassen OMJA, Muylaert DEP, Bouten CVC, Hjortnaes J
Opinion statement: Heart valve disease is a major health burden, treated by either valve repair or valve replacement, depending on the affected valve. Nearly 300,000 valve replacements are performed worldwide per year. Valve replacement is lifesaving, but not without complications. The in situ tissue-engineered heart valve is a promising alternative to current treatments, but the translation of this novel technology to the clinic still faces several challenges. These challenges originate from th... Abstract
