This report describes a case in which diplopia was developed as a finding of postinfectious anti- N -methyl- d -aspartate receptor encephalitis. Infectious encephalitis, especially herpes simplex virus, is essential as it is one of the triggers of autoimmune encephalitis. Even if the cases present unexpected clinical findings, we should be vigilant in terms of autoimmune processes, such as diplopia seen in our case. Abstract

Indian journal of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, Volume 39, Issue Suppl 2, 25 4 2023, Pages 270-279 The role of transforming growth factor beta in bicuspid aortic valve aortopathy. Grewal N, Dolmaci O, Klautz A, Legue J, Driessen A, Klautz R, Poelmann R
A bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most prevalent congenital cardiac deformity, which is associated with an increased risk to develop a thoracic aortic aneurysm and/or an aortic dissection as compared to persons with a tricuspid aortic valve. Due to the high prevalence of a BAV in the general population and the associated life-long increased risk for adverse vascular events, BAV disease places a considerable burden on the public health. The aim of the present review is to discuss the role of t... Abstract

International journal of molecular sciences, Volume 24, Issue 10, 18 3 2023, Pages 8948 Hfe Actions in Kupffer Cells Are Dispensable for Hepatic and Systemic Iron Metabolism. Knoop P, Yilmaz D, Paganoni R, Steele-Perkins P, Gruber A, Akdogan B, Zischka H, Leopold K, Vujić Spasić M
Mutations in the HFE/Hfe gene cause Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HH), a highly prevalent genetic disorder characterized by elevated iron deposition in multiple tissues. HFE acts in hepatocytes to control hepcidin expression, whereas HFE actions in myeloid cells are required for cell-autonomous and systemic iron regulation in aged mice. To address the role of HFE specifically in liver-resident macrophages, we generated mice with a selective Hfe deficiency in Kupffer cells (HfeClec4fCre). The analy... Abstract

The coronary vascular volume to left ventricular mass (V/M) ratio assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a promising new parameter to investigate the relation of coronary vasculature to the myocardium supplied. It is hypothesized that hypertension decreases the ratio between coronary volume and myocardial mass by way of myocardial hypertrophy, which could explain the detected abnormal myocardial perfusion reserve reported in patients with hypertension. Individuals enrolle... Abstract

Annals of cardiothoracic surgery, Volume 12, Issue 3, 15 3 2023, Pages 179-193 Functional and pathomorphological anatomy of the aortic valve and root for aortic valve sparing surgery in tricuspid and bicuspid aortic valves. Jahanyar J, Tsai PI, Arabkhani B, Aphram G, Mastrobuoni S, El Khoury G, de Kerchove L
The aortic valve (AV) is a three-dimensional structure, with leaflets that are suspended within the functional aortic annulus (FAA). These structures (AV and FAA) are therefore intrinsically connected and disease of just one component can independently lead to AV dysfunction. Hence, AV dysfunction can occur in the setting of entirely normal valve leaflets. However, as these structures are functionally inter-connected, disease of one component can lead to abnormalities of the other over time. Thu... Abstract

Patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) may show left ventricular (LV) apical longitudinal strain sparing. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) improves LV systolic function in patients with severe AS. However, the changes in regional longitudinal strain after TAVI have not been extensively evaluated. This study aimed to characterize the effect of the pressure overload relief after TAVI on LV apical longitudinal strain sparing. A total of 156 patients (mean age 80 ± 7 years, 53% men)... Abstract
