Journal for immunotherapy of cancer, Volume 7, Issue 1, 3 1 2019, Pages 236 High numbers of activated helper T cells are associated with better clinical outcome in early stage vulvar cancer, irrespective of HPV or p53 status. Kortekaas KE, Santegoets SJ, Abdulrahman Z, van Ham VJ, van der Tol M, Ehsan I, van Doorn HC, Bosse T, van Poelgeest MIE, van der Burg SH
Background: Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) has been suggested to consist of three subtypes; HPV-positive, HPV-negative mutated TP53 or HPV-negative TP53 wildtype, with different clinical courses. To analyze the immune infiltrate in these molecular subtypes and its impact on clinical outcome, an in-depth study of the tumor immune microenvironment was performed. Methods: Sixty-five patients with invasive VSCC matched for age, FIGO stage and treatment modality, were grouped according to the... Abstract

Background: The 2018 US cholesterol management guidelines recommend additional lipid-lowering therapies for secondary prevention in patients with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol ≥70 mg/dL or non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ≥100 mg/dL despite maximum tolerated statin therapy. Such patients are considered at very high risk (VHR) based on a history of >1 major atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) event or a single ASCVD event and multiple high-risk conditions. We investiga... Abstract

European journal of preventive cardiology, Volume 27, Issue 3, 2 1 2019, Pages 272-280 Familial occurrence of mitral regurgitation in patients with mitral valve prolapse undergoing mitral valve surgery. Hiemstra YL, Wijngaarden ALV, Bos MW, Schalij MJ, Klautz RJ, Bax JJ, Delgado V, Barge-Schaapveld DQ, Marsan NA
Background: Initial studies have suggested the familial clustering of mitral valve prolapse, but most of them were either community based among unselected individuals or applied non-specific diagnostic criteria. Therefore little is known about the familial distribution of mitral regurgitation in a referral-type population with a more severe mitral valve prolapse phenotype. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of familial mitral regurgitation in patients undergoing surgery for... Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) is an important cause of healthcare-associated infections, particularly in immunocompromised patients. Understanding how this multi-drug resistant pathogen is transmitted within intensive care units (ICUs) is crucial for devising and evaluating successful control strategies. While it is known that moist environments serve as natural reservoirs for P. aeruginosa, there is little quantitative evidence regarding the contribution of environmental contamination... Abstract

Objectives: This study sought to determine new reference cutoffs for normal unipolar voltage (UV) and bipolar voltage (BV) that would be adjusted for the LV remodeling. Background: The definition of "normal" left ventricular (LV) endocardial voltage in patients with post-infarct scar is still lacking. The reference voltage of the noninfarcted myocardium (NIM) may differ between patients depending on LV structural remodeling and the ensuing interstitial fibrosis. Methods: Electroanatomi... Abstract

Liu J, Kuipers EN, Sips HCM, Dorleijn JC, van Dam AD, Christodoulides C, Karpe F, Zhou G, Boon MR, Rensen PCN, de Vries AAF, Kooijman S
Brown adipose tissue (BAT) is a potential target to treat cardiometabolic disorders because of its capacity to combust glucose and fatty acids for thermoregulation. Its cellular and molecular investigation in humans is hampered by the limited availability of cell material and the heterogeneity of BAT between and within individuals. In this study, monoclonal lines of conditionally immortalized brown preadipocytes (iBPAs) of mouse and human origin were generated. Conditional immortalization was ac... Abstract

The 2018 American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) cholesterol management guideline recommends risk enhancers in the borderline-risk and statin recommended/intermediate-risk groups. We determined the risk reclassification by the presence and severity of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA)-visualized coronary artery disease (CAD) according to statin eligibility groups. Of 35,281 individuals who underwent CCTA, 1,303 asymptomatic patients (age 59, 65% male)... Abstract

Predicting longer-term mortality risk requires collection of clinical data, which is often cumbersome. Therefore, we use a well-standardized metabolomics platform to identify metabolic predictors of long-term mortality in the circulation of 44,168 individuals (age at baseline 18-109), of whom 5512 died during follow-up. We apply a stepwise (forward-backward) procedure based on meta-analysis results and identify 14 circulating biomarkers independently associating with all-cause mortality. Overall... Abstract
