The EMBO journal, Volume 39, Issue 6, 21 3 2020, Pages e103159 Local rewiring of genome-nuclear lamina interactions by transcription. Brueckner L, Zhao PA, van Schaik T, Leemans C, Sima J, Peric-Hupkes D, Gilbert DM, van Steensel B
Transcriptionally inactive genes are often positioned at the nuclear lamina (NL), as part of large lamina-associated domains (LADs). Activation of such genes is often accompanied by repositioning toward the nuclear interior. How this process works and how it impacts flanking chromosomal regions are poorly understood. We addressed these questions by systematic activation or inactivation of individual genes, followed by detailed genome-wide analysis of NL interactions, replication timing, and tran... Abstract
Journal of vascular surgery cases and innovative techniques, Volume 6, Issue 1, 20 3 2020, Pages 118-120 Talar beak-induced intermittent ischemia of the foot. Rotmans JI, van der Wal RJP, Schepers A
A 44-year-old man presented with symptoms of intermittent ischemia of the right foot. Computed tomography scanning of the right foot revealed a talar beak that had a close anatomic relation with the dorsalis pedis artery. Duplex ultrasound performed during a symptomatic episode confirmed ischemia induced by severe vasospasm of the dorsalis pedis artery that normalized 30 minutes later. The talar beak was removed by open surgery that resulted in complete resolution of the patient's symptoms.... Abstract

Infection and immunity, Volume 88, Issue 3, 20 3 2020, Pages e00690-19 The Staphylococcus aureus Cystine Transporters TcyABC and TcyP Facilitate Nutrient Sulfur Acquisition during Infection. Lensmire JM, Dodson JP, Hsueh BY, Wischer MR, Delekta PC, Shook JC, Ottosen EN, Kies PJ, Ravi J, Hammer ND
Staphylococcus aureus is a significant human pathogen due to its capacity to cause a multitude of diseases. As such, S. aureus efficiently pillages vital nutrients from the host; however, the molecular mechanisms that support sulfur acquisition during infection have not been established. One of the most abundant extracellular sulfur-containing metabolites within the host is cysteine, which acts as the major redox buffer in the blood by transitioning between reduced and oxidized (cystine) forms.... Introduction: Strict imaging surveillance protocols to detect complications following endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) are common practice. However, controversy exists as to whether all EVAR patients need intense surveillance. The 2019 European Society for Vascular Surgery guidelines for management of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) suggest that patients may be considered for limited follow-up with imaging if classified as 'low risk' for complications based on their initial postoper... BMC plant biology, Volume 20, Issue 1, 13 2 2020, Pages 73 The TIR-NB-LRR pair DSC1 and WRKY19 contributes to basal immunity of Arabidopsis to the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita. Warmerdam S, Sterken MG, Sukarta OCA, van Schaik CC, Oortwijn MEP, Lozano-Torres JL, Bakker J, Smant G, Goverse A
Background: Root-knot nematodes transform vascular host cells into permanent feeding structures to withdraw nutrients from the host plant. Ecotypes of Arabidopsis thaliana can display large quantitative variation in susceptibility to the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita, which is thought to be independent of dominant major resistance genes. However, in an earlier genome-wide association study of the interaction between Arabidopsis and M. incognita we identified a quantitative trait locus... Abstract

Norovirus constitutes the most frequently identified infectious cause of disease outbreaks associated with untreated recreational water. When investigating outbreaks related to surface water, a One Health approach is insightful. Historically, there has been a focus on potential contamination of recreational water by bird droppings and a recent publication demonstrating human noroviruses in bird faeces suggested this should be investigated in future water-related norovirus outbreaks. Here, we des... Abstract
