The American journal of cardiology, Volume 199, 15 3 2023, Pages 100-109 Coronary Volume to Left Ventricular Mass Ratio in Patients With Hypertension. van Rosendael SE, van Rosendael AR, Kuneman JH, Patel MR, Nørgaard BL, Fairbairn TA, Nieman K, Akasaka T, Berman DS, Koweek LMH, Pontone G, Kawasaki T, Sand NPR, Jensen JM, Amano T, Poon M, Øvrehus KA, Sonck J, Rabbat MG, Rogers C, Matsuo H, Leipsic JA, Marsan NA, Jukema JW, Bax JJ, Saraste A, Knuuti J
The coronary vascular volume to left ventricular mass (V/M) ratio assessed by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) is a promising new parameter to investigate the relation of coronary vasculature to the myocardium supplied. It is hypothesized that hypertension decreases the ratio between coronary volume and myocardial mass by way of myocardial hypertrophy, which could explain the detected abnormal myocardial perfusion reserve reported in patients with hypertension. Individuals enrolle... Abstract

Annals of cardiothoracic surgery, Volume 12, Issue 3, 15 3 2023, Pages 179-193 Functional and pathomorphological anatomy of the aortic valve and root for aortic valve sparing surgery in tricuspid and bicuspid aortic valves. Jahanyar J, Tsai PI, Arabkhani B, Aphram G, Mastrobuoni S, El Khoury G, de Kerchove L
The aortic valve (AV) is a three-dimensional structure, with leaflets that are suspended within the functional aortic annulus (FAA). These structures (AV and FAA) are therefore intrinsically connected and disease of just one component can independently lead to AV dysfunction. Hence, AV dysfunction can occur in the setting of entirely normal valve leaflets. However, as these structures are functionally inter-connected, disease of one component can lead to abnormalities of the other over time. Thu... Abstract

The American journal of cardiology, Volume 198, 15 3 2023, Pages 95-100 Changes in Computed-Tomography-Derived Segmental Left Ventricular Longitudinal Strain After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation. Singh GK, Fortuni F, Kuneman JH, Vollema EM, van der Kley F, Marsan NA, Delgado V, Bax JJ
Patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) may show left ventricular (LV) apical longitudinal strain sparing. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) improves LV systolic function in patients with severe AS. However, the changes in regional longitudinal strain after TAVI have not been extensively evaluated. This study aimed to characterize the effect of the pressure overload relief after TAVI on LV apical longitudinal strain sparing. A total of 156 patients (mean age 80 ± 7 years, 53% men)... Abstract

Background: Patients with mitral regurgitation (MR) commonly suffer from left atrial (LA) remodeling. LA fibrosis is considered to be a key player in the LA remodeling process, as observed in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. Literature on the presence and extent of LA fibrosis in MR patients however, is scarce and its clinical implications remain unknown. Therefore, the ALIVE trial was designed to investigate the presence of LA remodeling including LA fibrosis in MR patients prior to and after... Abstract

Journal of endovascular therapy : an official journal of the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, Volume 32, Issue 1, 11 2 2023, Pages 43-46 Elastic Deformation Measurement Using Duplex Ultrasound for the Detection of High Aneurysm Sac Pressure Following EVAR. van Genderen OS, van Wissen RC, Hamming JF, van Schaik J, van der Vorst JR
Purpose: To describe the concept of aortic elastic deformation (ED) measurement using duplex ultrasonography (DUS) as a tool for detection of high aneurysm sac pressure following endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). Technique: High aneurysm sac pressure, with or without proven endoleak, will result in a less compressible aneurysm. Using the dual image function in B-mode of the DUS device and a standardized amount of applied probe pressure, ED can be measured. It is defined as the percentage of def... Abstract
