Lamberte LE, Darby EM, Kiu R, Moran RA, Acuna-Gonzalez A, Sim K, Shaw AG, Kroll JS, Belteki G, Clarke P, Felgate H, Webber MA, Rowe W, Hall LJ, Van Schaik W
Staphylococcus haemolyticus is an important cause of sepsis in preterm infants, with gut colonization being recognized as a risk factor for infection. To better understand the diversity of S. haemolyticus among preterm infants, we generated genome sequences of S. haemolyticus strains (n = 140) from 44 stool samples of 22 preterm infants from four hospitals in England. Core genome phylogenetic analyses, incorporating 126 publicly available S. haemolyticus genome sequences, showed that 85/140 (60.... Abstract
Acta biomaterialia, Volume 202, 21 3 2025, Pages 262-275 Multilayered trabecular meshwork for dynamic in vitro studies in glaucoma research. Gładysz MZ, Fernandes M, Li X, Koch M, Marchena F, Hofman A, de Graaf M, Wolters JC, Kamperman M, Nagelkerke A, Włodarczyk-Biegun MK
Glaucoma, an eye disease causing incremental vision loss, currently has no cure. Its primary cause is the malfunction of the trabecular meshwork (TM), a multilayered tissue in the eye responsible for draining aqueous humor (AH) from the anterior chamber. TM clogging increases outflow resistance, elevates intraocular pressure (IOP), and damages optic nerves, leading to irreversible blindness. Existing in vitro TM models are suboptimal, as they lack the hierarchical structure of the TM. This artic... Abstract

Critical reviews in oncology/hematology, Volume 214, 20 3 2025, Pages 104815 Trimodal treatment vs radical cystectomy for muscle-invasive bladder cancer: The neglected impact of informative censoring. A systematic review and meta-analysis. Robesti D, Micheli F, Rai SN, Fallara G, Gallina A, Montorsi F, Briganti A, Fossati N, van der Heijden AG, Ploussard G, Malavaud B, Martini A
Introduction: Informative censoring (IC) is a statistical bias that occurs when there is an imbalance in the dropout rate among study arms and this imbalance is not random, but can be ascribed to information that is not accounted for. Studies on trimodal therapy (TMT) versus radical cystectomy (RC) yielded conflicting results. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the potential impact of informative censoring in influencing study outcomes. Materials and methods: A systematic literature search i... Abstract

JCI insight, Volume 10, Issue 13, 5 1 2025, Pages e190992 Distinct cell types along thick ascending limb express pathways for monovalent and divalent cation transport. Demirci H, Bahena-Lopez JP, Smorodchenko A, Su XT, Nelson JW, Yang CL, Curry JN, Duan XP, Wang WH, Sharkovska Y, Liu R, Yilmaz DE, Quintanova C, Emberley K, Emery B, Himmerkus N, Bleich M, Ellison DH, Bachmann S
Kidney thick ascending limb (TAL) cells reabsorb sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium and contribute to urinary concentration. These cells are typically viewed as a single type that recycles potassium across the apical membrane and generates a lumen-positive transepithelial voltage driving calcium and magnesium reabsorption, though variability in potassium channel expression has been reported. Additionally, recent transcriptomic analyses suggest that different cell types exist along this se... Abstract
Biological cybernetics, Volume 119, Issue 2-3, 4 1 2025, Pages 12 Decreased spinal inhibition leads to undiversified locomotor patterns. de Graaf ML, Wagner H, Mochizuki L, Le Mouel C
During walking and running, animals display rich and coordinated motor patterns that are generated and controlled within the central nervous system. Previous computational and experimental results suggest that the balance between excitation and inhibition in neural circuits may be critical for generating such structured motor patterns. In this paper, we explore the influence of this balance on the ability of a reservoir computing artificial neural network to learn human locomotor patterns, using... Abstract
