Objective: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has heterogeneous patient clinical characteristics and outcomes. In previous work, we investigated the genetic basis of this heterogeneity by clustering 94 T2D genetic loci using their associations with 47 diabetes-related traits and identified five clusters, termed β-cell, proinsulin, obesity, lipodystrophy, and liver/lipid. The relationship between these clusters and individual-level metabolic disease outcomes has not been assessed. Research design and methods:... Abstract

Aims: Controversial results have been published regarding the influence of pulmonary vein (PV) anatomical variations on outcomes after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). However, no data are available on the impact of PV orientation on the long-term success rates of point-by-point PVI. We sought to determine the impact of PV anatomy and orientation on atrial fibrillation (AF)-free survival in patients undergoing PVI using the radiofrequency point-by-point technique. Methods and results: We retrospe... Abstract

Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a strong prognostic factor for cardiovascular disease and a potential target for cardiovascular risk stratification. Because VAT is difficult to measure in clinical practice, we estimated prediction models with predictors routinely measured in general practice and VAT as outcome using ridge regression in 2,501 middle-aged participants from the Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity study, 2008-2012. Adding waist circumference and other anthropometric measurements on... Abstract

Human molecular genetics, Volume 31, Issue 7, 1 1 2022, Pages 1051-1066 C/D box snoRNA SNORD113-6/AF357425 plays a dual role in integrin signalling and arterial fibroblast function via pre-mRNA processing and 2'O-ribose methylation. van Ingen E, van den Homberg DAL, van der Bent ML, Mei H, Papac-Milicevic N, Kremer V, Boon RA, Quax PHA, Wojta J, Nossent AY
We have previously shown that C/D box small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) transcribed from the DLK1-DIO3 locus on human chromosome 14 (14q32) are associated with cardiovascular disease. DLK1-DIO3 snoRNAs are 'orphan snoRNAs' that have no known targets. We aimed to identify RNA targets and elucidate the mechanism-of-action of human SNORD113-6 (AF357425 in mice). As AF357425-knockout cells were non-viable, we induced overexpression or inhibition of AF357425 in primary murine fibroblasts and p... Abstract

Background: In non-randomized studies (NRSs) where a continuous outcome variable (e.g., depressive symptoms) is assessed at baseline and follow-up, it is common to observe imbalance of the baseline values between the treatment/exposure group and control group. This may bias the study and consequently a meta-analysis (MA) estimate. These estimates may differ across statistical methods used to deal with this issue. Analysis of individual participant data (IPD) allows standardization of methods acr... Abstract

The American journal of cardiology, Volume 170, 21 3 2022, Pages 1-9 Prognostic Relevance of Right Ventricular Remodeling after ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction in Patients Treated With Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention. Chimed S, van der Bijl P, Lustosa RP, Hirasawa K, Yedidya I, Fortuni F, van der Velde E, Montero-Cabezas JM, Marsan NA, Gersh BJ, Delgado V, Bax JJ
ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) often leads to changes in right ventricular (RV) function and size over time. The prognostic implications of RV remodeling after STEMI, however, are unknown. RV remodeling in patients who underwent STEMI with primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was defined by RV end-systolic area (RV ESA) change at 6 months after STEMI compared with baseline. The optimal threshold of RV ESA change (≥40%) to define RV remodeling was derived from spli... Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of baseline LV volumes on LV reverse remodeling after CRT and whether this is associated with improved survival. Methods: Patients were stratified into quintiles according to baseline LV end-diastolic volume indexed for body surface area (LVEDVi). LV reverse remodeling was defined as ≥15% reduction in LV end-sy... Abstract
European heart journal. Case reports, Volume 6, Issue 3, 17 3 2022, Pages ytac087 Successful hybrid cardiac resynchronization therapy in a patient with failing systemic right ventricle and significant tricuspid regurgitation in transposition of the great arteries after atrial switch procedure according to Mustard. Nederend M, Zeppenfeld K, Jongbloed MRM, Egorova AD
Background: Patients with a systemic right ventricle (sRV) in the context of transposition of the great arteries (TGA) late after atrial switch are prone to heart failure. Complications like tricuspid valve regurgitation (TR) can further aggravate sRV dysfunction. Tricuspid valve regurgitation is usually secondary to annular dilatation and restriction. Criteria for cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) in this patient group are not well defined and should be considered on a case-by-case basis.... Abstract
