Histopathology, Volume 77, Issue 1, 7 1 2020, Pages 92-99 Performance of the pattern-based interpretation of p53 immunohistochemistry as a surrogate for TP53 mutations in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma. Kortekaas KE, Solleveld-Westerink N, Tessier-Cloutier B, Rutten TA, Poelgeest MIE, Gilks CB, Hoang LN, Bosse T
Aims: The most commonly mutated gene in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) is TP53 and its prognostic value, particularly in HPV-independent VSCC, is uncertain. In other tumours, p53 immunohistochemistry (IHC) is an excellent surrogate marker for TP53 mutations. In order to study this in VSCC, we assigned six p53 IHC patterns into two final classes: 'wild-type' or 'mutant'. We determined the performance and interobserver variability of this pattern-based p53 IHC approach.... Abstract

Journal of electrocardiology, Volume 61, 5 1 2020, Pages 141-146 Lack of diagnostic utility of the ECG-derived ventricular gradient in patients with suspected acute pulmonary embolism. Meijer FMM, Hendriks SV, Huisman MV, van der Hulle T, Swenne CA, Kies P, Jongbloed MRM, Egorova AD, Vliegen HW, Klok FA
Introduction: The YEARS algorithm was successfully developed to reduce the number of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) investigations in the diagnostic management of patients with suspected pulmonary embolism (PE), although half of patients still needed to be referred for CTPA. We hypothesized that ECG derived ventricular gradient optimized for right ventricular pressure overload (VG-RVPO), an easy to use tool for detecting PE-induced pulmonary hypertension (PH), may further impro... Nederlands tijdschrift voor geneeskunde, Volume 164, 4 1 2020, Pages D4191 [Pharmacogenetics in daily practice]. van Gelder T, van Schaik RHN
With the exception of a few medical specialties, the implementation of pharmacogenetic tests in daily practice has thus far been limited. The Royal Dutch Pharmacists Association (KNMP) has developed pharmacogenetics-based therapeutic doserecommendations for 80 medicinal product combinations on the basis of a systematic literature review. Genotyping of patients can take place on a reactive or pre-emptive basis; the advantage of pre-emptive genotyping is that it provides genetic information the mo... Abstract

Bioinformatics (Oxford, England), Volume 36, Issue 12, 1 1 2020, Pages 3874-3876 gplas: a comprehensive tool for plasmid analysis using short-read graphs. Arredondo-Alonso S, Bootsma M, Hein Y, Rogers MRC, Corander J, Willems RJL, Schürch AC
Summary: Plasmids can horizontally transmit genetic traits, enabling rapid bacterial adaptation to new environments and hosts. Short-read whole-genome sequencing data are often applied to large-scale bacterial comparative genomics projects but the reconstruction of plasmids from these data is facing severe limitations, such as the inability to distinguish plasmids from each other in a bacterial genome. We developed gplas, a new approach to reliably separate plasmid contigs into discrete componen... Abstract

Human nature (Hawthorne, N.Y.), Volume 31, Issue 2, 1 1 2020, Pages 155-173 Why Class Formation Occurs in Humans but Not among Other Primates : A Primate Coalitions Model. Pandit SA, Pradhan GR, van Schaik CP
Most human societies exhibit a distinct class structure, with an elite, middle classes, and a bottom class, whereas animals form simple dominance hierarchies in which individuals with higher fighting ability do not appear to form coalitions to "oppress" weaker individuals. Here, we extend our model of primate coalitions and find that a division into a bottom class and an upper class is inevitable whenever fitness-enhancing resources, such as food or real estate, are exploitable or trad...
