Virchows Archiv : an international journal of pathology, 5 1 2025 Diagnosing the silent: the molecular landscape of non-functional parathyroid carcinoma. Jentus MM, Corver WE, Snel M, van Haalen FM, van Wezel T, Ruano D, Kapiteijn E, Crobach S, Appelman-Dijkstra NM, Schepers A, Morreau H
Non-functional parathyroid carcinoma (NFPC) is an exceptionally rare malignancy, with approximately 50 cases reported since the parathyroid glands were first described in the late nineteenth century. Unlike functional parathyroid carcinomas (PC), which typically present with severe hyperparathyroidism (HPT) and are monitored via serum calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, NFPC lacks biochemical markers and is monitored solely through imaging. In this study, we present two new cases of pr... Abstract

Kougioumtzoglou AM, Lam BCY, Bouma BJ, Groenink M, Scholte AJHA, Dolmaci OB, Corsmit OT, Pandey AK, de Blok ACJ, Noter SL, Austin C, Klautz RJM, Hazekamp MG, Koolbergen DR
Introduction: Patients with connective tissue disease and aortic root aneurysm are at risk of dissection and progression of the dilation. Standard treatment of aortic root aneurysm is either a total root replacement or valve-sparing root replacement. Both procedures have drawbacks such as the need for anticoagulation and long term exposure to the chance of reoperation or endocarditis. The ExoVasc® Personalized External Aortic Root Support (PEARS) is a perivascular stent, that has been introduced... Abstract

Wilschut ED, de Winter EP, Bos EJ, de Vries MR, Putter H, van der Steenhoven TJ, Eefting D, Hamming JF, Rotmans JI, van der Bogt KEA
Background: Maturation failure may be as high as 30%-60% of arteriovenous fistulas (AVF). Forearm exercise postoperatively has shown potential in increasing blood vessel size in patients with end-stage renal disease and may promote maturation of AVFs. Little evidence exists on the impact of pre-operative forearm exercises on the increase of vascular diameters. Aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of supervised forearm exercises on vascular diameters and AVF maturation. Methods: The PINCH... Abstract
European heart journal, 1 1 2025, Pages ehaf480 Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and ventricular secondary mitral regurgitation: a holistic approach. Adamo M, Pagnesi M, Ajmone Marsan N, Bauersachs J, Hausleiter J, Zieroth S, Metra M
Optimal management of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) requires the integration of multiple competencies with the interplay of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) for HFrEF, devices, namely cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), when indicated, and mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER). Both GDMT and CRT can reduce SMR severity. However, GDMT may not be tolerated in patients with HFrEF who develop hypo... Abstract

JACC. Basic to translational science, Volume 10, Issue 8, 29 5 2025, Pages 101323 CD137 Signaling Modulates Vein Graft Atherosclerosis by Driving T-Cell Activation and Regulating Intraplaque Angiogenesis. de Jong A, Sluiter TJ, Peters HAB, Lamens A, Jukema JW, Arens R, Quax PHA, de Vries MR
Atherosclerotic vein graft failure still presents a major problem. T-cells have been identified as one of the most abundant immune cell subset in atherosclerotic plaques. Their role, however, remains only partly understood. Using a murine vein graft model for advanced, unstable atherosclerotic lesions, we find that T-cells accumulate over time in atherosclerotic vein grafts, and appear to be activated rapidly after engraftment, demonstrated by increased expression of CD137 on plaque T-cells. Tar... Abstract
